Speech: The H2020 GAIN project: real time data and models for improving the environmental and economic performances of aquaculture

The costs of environmental and biomass/fish size sensors, providing real time data, are decreasing, thus making affordable the collection of large data sets, i.e. Big Data: at the same time computational costs are dropping. These factors allow the development of, Precision Fish Farming, a new approach based on innovative modelling tools for turning Big Data into best management decision. Preliminary results of the application of the PFF approach to a trout farm, obtained in the H2020 GAIN project, will be presented.

Speech: Rheticus Aquaculture: a tool to helm managing mollusk farming

Rheticus aquaculture (https://www.rheticus.eu/rheticus-services/aquaculture/) is a brand new service, developed in partnership by Planetek Italia and Bluefarm s.r.l., to support the sustainable management of marine aquafarms. At present, the service is operational for mussel farmers: its basic version provides two weeks ahead forecasts of mussel average length, seasonal trends of length evolution, assessment of environmental conditions in relation to mussel potential growth. This information is based on the integration of high quality remotely sensed data concerning relevant environmental variables, e.g. water temperature, chlorophyll a, turbidity …, and state-of-the-art modelling tools.  The service can be upgraded and customized in relation to customer needs and available input data, thus supporting the implementation of precision shellfish farming.
