Aquaculture 4.0: technologies and innovations

Speech
Satellites and aquaculture: monitoring mussels, oysters and sponges

Abstract
What is the link between aquaculture, climate change and Earth observation satellites? Climate change, and therefore variations in sea temperature or even in the amount of phytoplankton, are changing the growth rates of molluscs, causing a high level of mortality in the animals and thus impacting the productivity of farms and the quality of products. An extraordinary source of information now comes from satellites. Planetek Italia, with almost 30 years of experience in the Earth Observation sector, has developed a service, Rheticus® Aquaculture, specifically designed for the management of mussel farms to provide producers with fast and intuitive constantly updated information, useful for the optimal management of their sites.
