D. Torreggiani, A. Zaniboni and A. Barbaresi: A GIS-based decision support system for optimal localization of SIMTAP systems
Abstract
A multi-criteria spatial analysis model has been developed and implemented by means of geospatial technologies to assess the various levels of land suitability to host a multitrophic aquaponic system at the super-municipal/regional scale. The model has been tested on case studies in various countries involved in the SIMTAP project. The model considers availability of resources and infrastructure, environmental conditions, potential access to market and labour, as well as interferences with land-use and other activities, with the aim to facilitate the diffusion of SIMTAP plants, while enhancing their environmental and landscape integration.
