Probiotics in marine fish larval feeds, a success story
Abstract
The last few years have witnessed an increase in the use of probiotics in marine fish larviculture, environmental and gut microbiota modulation play a major role in the success of any hatchery operation, and probiotics have the potential to become a key tool for marine fish hatcheries. In order to achieve the best results, the selection of the adequate strains and the mode of application are key parameters to be taken into account. In the talk, the results of numerous trials incorporating probiotics in marine fish larval feeds are presented, showing that the use of in-feed probiotics is today a key strategy that helps to increase productive performance in marine fish larval rearing, with beneficial effects on growth, survival and morphological deformity reduction, becoming a key contributor for the success of marine fish larval rearing operations.
