Promoting the sustainability of fish and crop farming using circular multitrophic aquaculture: the pilot experience of the PRIMA project “SIMTAP”

Speech
C. J. Aubin, C. Jaeger, V. Gayet, A. Wilfart, M. Zoli, M. Costantini and J. Bacenetti: Sustainable implications of integrated aquaponic systems

Abstract
Sustainability is becoming a key issue for aquaculture systems, with the objective to produce seafood with lower environmental impacts and being economically viable and socially fair. The aim of this work is to present the results of the overall sustainability assessment within SIMTAP Project. To this purpose, different indicators proposed by the different methods (LCA, LCC, Emergy, but also rearing performances) have been aggregated with a qualitative approach based on the decision trees of DEXi method (DEXi Aqua). This made it possible to compare the sustainability of different integrated aquaculture systems (SIMTAP) with the conventional production of seafood with the actual technologies.
