Effects of insect-based feed in sturgeon’s pre-fattening: a six-months review
Abstract:
Over the last few years, the inclusion of insect-based meals in aquaculture feed has been the subject of numerous studies, most of them in the academic field. Such studies have often been carried out for limited time periods, in controlled environments, and to investigate specific effects determined and/or associated with these ingredients.
This study on Siberian sturgeon (A. baerii), currently ongoing at Società Agricola Naviglio, aims to monitor the real potential and benefits of this type of feed, in a commercial production environment and over prolonged rearing periods. Data related to growth, palatability, and resilience to stress factors as well as a quantification of the positive environmental impact linked to the inclusion of these ingredients are presented.
