The rainbow trout value chain in Albania
Abstract
An investigation of the Albanian farmed rainbow trout value chain was conducted using primary and secondary data, field observations, expert groups consultations, focus group interviews, farms survey, key informant interviews. The presentation starts with a general overview of the fishery and aquaculture sector related to the freshwater fish value chain in Albania. A value chain map of the sector is described, including the main actors (Farmers, Wholesalers, Ho.Re.Ca., Retailing) and the supply of inputs and services, including the infrastructures and logistics supporting the fish market. The evolution of domestic and international markets related to the aquaculture sector in general and rainbow trout in particular is examined, including exports and imports of net weight and all fish products. The administrative structure of the fishery and aquaculture sector in the Albanian government and other non-governmental organization of fisheries and aquaculture producers, including relevant national institutions and policies will be described in the presentation. The main challenges and opportunities will be summarised in a SWOT analysis.
