Advances in vaccine development for farmed fish species

Abstract
Despite the recent legislation (EU Reg. 2019/06 on veterinary medicinal products) recommends the use of vaccines and also in the fish sector there have been significant scientific advances with new generation products (protein subunits or DNA vaccines), the variety of farmed species and pathogens involved in disease outbreaks often make it difficult to obtain the specific Market Authorization. The procedural process to allow their marketing is in fact so onerous that, especially in the case of minor species, the pharmaceutical companies are discouraged and fish farmers often find themselves lacking effective immunological products.
