Speech
An overview of farmed rainbow trout value chain in Türkiye

Abstract
Turkish trout farming is a well-developed sector and supplier of fresh and processed trout products to domestic and international markets. Rainbow trout is farmed in inland waters as portion-sizes and as large trout (so-called Turkish Salmon) in low-salinity marine waters of the Black Sea in cages. In 2022, production reached 191 000 tonnes of which 45 400 tonnes was produced in the Black Sea as Turkish Salmon, mostly targeting export markets. Legislations on licensing, environmental monitoring, food safety, quality and traceability aspects have paved the way for effective governance in the sector. While well-developed processing and fish feed manufacturing facilities, technical and veterinary support services have contributed to development of the sector. Cold-chain logistics have facilitated availability of farmed trout products in domestic and export markets.
